American Music, Part 2
May 23, 2012

The second workshop regarding American Music, Amber talked about the history of Gospel in the United States.

We said....

Black Gospel

ÒCan be traced back to 1619
ÒThe Great Awakening was the first large scale attempt to convert slaves to Christianity
ÒCall and response style a capella songs were utilized for group participation
and that....
ÒIn1607, the Puritans (including Calvinists) arrived in Massachusetts Bay Colony
ÒThe Puritans left England over conflicts regarding the practice of Protestant Christianity.
ÒThey believed the church was tolerant of practices associated with Catholicism and searched for a more “pure” reformation

and that...

Billboard also has a music awards show
Over the years, Billboard renamed its R&B chart to Hip-Hop/R&B
